Tankard breaks 16 km course record
Mildura-Coomealla Cycling Club staged the first 16 km individual time trial of the 2009/2010 Summer Series at its Riverside circuit on the evening of Tuesday 20 October 2009. Thirty five riders lined up for two laps of the 8km circuit, in unseasonably warm conditions reaching approximately 33 degrees. A 17 kph north westerly wind was present as the event got underway and strengthened slightly as the evening wore on.
The conditions suited reining course record holder Kev Tankard who managed to shave another 2 seconds off his mark to bring his 2 lap time down to 21:06. The other stand out rider was Taryn Heather who smashed her previous best result by 1:38 minutes. All up 8 riders achieved personal best times. Other noteworthy personal best achievements included James Burge (58 seconds), Lachlan Ryan (41 seconds), Richard Hale (29 seconds), Ian Beruldsen (17 seconds), Gary Henderson (14 seconds) and Dean Taylor (11 seconds).
Thanks to Penny Hale, Julieanne Ryan, Mark Busch, Jeff Mitchell and Greg Scott for helping out with race administration and set-up duties. The next race will be the club's annual Spring Tour event comprising a 16km (2 laps) individual time trial followed by a 40km (5 laps) handicapped road race. Unfortunately the scheduled BBQ will not be held afterwards as the Golf Club venue is unavailable on that day. Harry Robbins and Gary Pitt (substituting for Arthur) are on set-up duty.
