Pairs Team Time Trial, Riverside, Saturday 18 April 2009
Taylor and Wilkinson Win First Pairs TTT
Mildura-Coomealla Cycling Club staged its first pairs team time trial at Riverside on Saturday 18 April 2009. The event, the second of the Bicycle Superstore 2009 Winter Series, was held over 40 km for seniors and 24 for juniors. Weather conditions were fine on the day, although the riders did have to contend with a stiff southerly wind.
The pairs were sent off at one minute intervals with the juniors leading the way. Alana Hale (JW15) and Ben Athorn (JM17) set the fastest time of the juniors, with a 42:13 minutes for the three laps. The fastest senior pair were Kevin Tankard and Gary Henderson in 54:59 minutes for the five laps. Once the results were adjusted for handicaps though it was a different story, with Brodie Athorn (U/19) and Thomas Henderson (JM15) taking out the juniors race, whilst Dean Taylor and Simon Wilkinson won the seniors. The next event is a handicap road race to be held at Merbein Cemetery on Saturday 25 April. Riders are reminded to ensure that they lodge an online nomination before 5 pm on Thursday 23 April.
