Course Record Broken Twice!
Mildura-Coomealla Cycling Club staged the final event of its 2008/09 Summer season, with a 16 km individual time trial held at Riverside on Tuesday 31 March. This event was originally scheduled for 10 March but was moved due to inclement weather on the programmed evening. Whilst there was no rain this evening, the riders did have to push into a moderate easterly breeze across the top part of the circuit, making it hard to snare that elusive “PB”.
A field of 24 riders lined up on the start line and were sent off at 30 second intervals. Whilst the weather conditions weren’t as kind as those of the previous week, nine riders still managed to better their previous best times. The highlight of the evening was the course record of 21:18 minutes being broken by two riders. Chris Parrott bettered his own record by 2 seconds but it wasn’t enough! An in-form Kevin Tankard was determined to reclaim the record and did so in style, smashing 10 seconds off the old record in a time of 21:08 minutes (average speed 45.4 km/h).
Other riders to carve significant chunks of time off their previous bests included Richard Hale (22:24 minutes, 44 seconds off), Garry Pitt (22:45, 12 seconds), Nathan Langley (23:35, 61 seconds), Tyler Beruldsen (30:25, 49 seconds) and Alison Curry (31:11, 74 seconds).

This event draws the 2008/09 Summer season to a close and the presentation night will be held at the Pizza Café on Sunday 5 April starting at 5.30 pm. As far as the grade winners go … you will need to wait for the presentation night!
