Tankard Reclaims Course Record!
Mildura-Coomealla Cycling Club staged an 8 km individual time trial at its Riverside circuit on Tuesday 24 March 2009. This event was a designated “PB Night” with bonus points on offer to riders. Of the 32 starters, 24 took full advantage of the almost calm conditions to set new personal best times for the one lap race of truth. The light southerly breeze blowing across the course was almost unnoticeable by the riders on the uphill run to the roundabout.
The stand out ride of the evening was undoubtedly put in by Kevin Tankard, who slashed 18 seconds off his own PB to reclaim the course record. Tankard’s ride saw him better Chris Parrott’s record by 11 seconds to lower the bar to 10:09 minutes (average speed 47.3 km/h). Congratulations are also due to Arthur “Doc” Anderson, one of the Club’s elder statesmen, who finally set a new PB by going under the 12 minutes barrier with an 11:59 minutes!
With only 3 events remaining on the program it will be a close finish in several of the grades, with only a handful of points (or less!) separating the leading riders in A and B Grades. An update on the current standings is shown below the ITT results.
Thanks to Barry Pollock, Julieanne Ryan, Mark Busch, Tom Athorn, Garry Pitt and Penny Hale for helping out. The next event is the Club’s Lunarfest criterium championship, to be held at Red Cliffs on Saturday 28 March starting at 5 pm. Members are reminded that the Summer season presentations will be held at the Pizza Café on Sunday 5 April, starting at 5.30 pm.
